All NHL draft selections from 1999 to 2017 plotted on this interactive graph reveals some interesting trends. Canadians selected are on decline, Americans fairly steady and Swedish-born players on strong incline.

How about quality?

Good question. A quick look at player nationalities chosen in the top 10 reveals that Canada is doing very well, including a recent high of 8 players in the top 10 in 2014. Both Sweden (4 in top 10 in 2011) and Finland with recent upward tends.
